Who am I?

I live in a world were struggle for visibility is part of the normal existence. The world has clearly changed over the past few centuries and things are viewed differently in every individual's eyes, every person has their own perspective on how to view the world and have their own dreams of becoming a sensation in life. From generation to generation everything seems to surpass its virtue and changes go from either good to best or from bad to worst. Human beings are the smartest speicies the world has ever seen, they haven't drastically changed the face of planet earth but humankind has altered thus a new age has been created. The world is certainly a dangerous place not because of the people who are evil and creating mass distractions but because of the people who don't do anything about it.

To tell or not to tell the truth has been since the profession of journalism has begun has been the most complicated dilemma for people for people who work in this area. A lot goes on around the world within a blink of an eye from new inventions, unforseen acts by humans, natural disasters, deaths and births thus journalism has found the platform to report eveything that happens around. News was written in clay tablets during Caesar's era, but now since it is the developed 21st century, news is presented in TV, radio or in a form of a newspaper. Although news is a window on the world and at the same time a transparency falllacy, some people still feel that whatever they get from the craft of journalism is nothing but the truth, which is not always the case. Journalism is also a source of information and it is good at exposing the hidden agendas which the community has the right to know about. This aims at young and aspiring journalists who feel as though more can be done to improve the world of journalism, be it at any field.

Life as a journalism student is indeed bliss because new things introduce themselves to me. At first, narrow-minded and believed every single detail that the news fed me but nowadays with all the knowledge acquainted from journalism, everything that is reported is vigilantly analysed before being digested to my system. Being a journalism student requires a lot of experience in the real world, it means that you have to be aware of everything that is going on around you and the core factor is how well do the stories get reported. Come along as we venture into this voyage to discover the true essence of the world of journalism!

Who the blog am I ?

I am like you. Learning continuously and being opened up to many new, exciting happenings in the big wide world. The ball we live in is infinitely amazing and expanding with ideas each day. It feels great to be a part of this growth. Blogging for the first time and although I was sceptical at first, it feels thrilling to be inputting into digital media. Just like the world is growing, I am growing and part of that is trying new things. This is a light group blog that will give readers an inside look at student life; to get an idea of what it is like going to University. I will be writing lightly about personal experiences as a journalism student. This would be a good blog to read for matriculants that would like to know what Rhodes is like and what they can expect when choosing to study Journalism. Maybe you can already tell that starting this blog was a part of my journalism course. Do not be fooled, being a journalism student is hard work and late nights but the valuable skills learnt this year have been worth the effort. This term I actually learnt there is more to the internet then Google and Facebook. Being a journalism student has been a discovery. A lot of thought and process goes into media and it is extremely influential. Journalists are effecting peoples view of the world. Journalists have a duty to interact in the world, find new stories and report. It takes time and effort to get a good story. When first starting my eyes were opened to a whole new media world that journalists live in; it is vast and it is moving fast. I feel closer to being part of that world, even now writing my own blog, feeling I have an identity to share with the media world. I feel enthusiastic and I hope that readers will be able to draw relevant information from this blog. I love to write and love the fact that you can find beauty and innocence in the simplest things in this world despite all the bad. Truly that is what I would want to focus on in my writing the simplistic beauty of the universe. That is why photography is so interesting and exciting to me because in one shot you can capture a moment of exquisiteness in its simplest form. Through this blog I am to find my identity as a journalist. I have never been good at defining myself because I am still in the process of learning who I am. Blogging may be a way of helping me piece together some of my journalistic identity.

Identity Test

Tutorial 2 of the blogging course was different compared to the other tutorials I have had in JMS1, the titorial was more like a learning curve to my inner-self. For instance the suspect identification form was a rather difficult task but interesting because I didn't know some of the stuff about my physical appearance, attributes such as height, weight and eye shape because I dont really pay much attention on such attributes. The questions at the back of the suspect identification form were set out in a good way to test whether you know your identity as an individual, the questions were asking who are you in different fields of your life, like as a daughter/son to your parents to your parents, as a student to your fellow classmates and as a partner in a love relationship; the real question though was that does your identity change with the different people you associate yourself with on a dialy basis? or does it remain rigid? The whole exercise was an eye-opener becauses now I get to assess my identity with the different people I associate myself with, I guess knowing yourself is good for personal growth.
